Author Guidelines

1. General Requirements

The Journal of Contemporary Islamic Law and Studies (JCILS) accepts original research articles and conceptual papers that have not been published or submitted elsewhere. Manuscripts must be written in clear academic English.

The length of the manuscript should be between 4,500 – 7,000 words, including abstract and references.


2. Manuscript Structure

Manuscripts must be arranged in the following order:

a. Title and Author Information

  • Title: concise and informative (Font: Garamond, size 14)
  • Author(s): full name(s), institutional affiliation, and country
  • Corresponding author must be indicated with email address

b. Abstract and Keywords

  • Abstract must be written in one paragraph (200–300 words)
  • Must include:
    • Research problem
    • Research questions
    • Methodology
    • Findings/results
    • Academic contribution
  • Provide 3–5 keywords representing key concepts

c. Introduction

The introduction should include:

  • Background of the study
  • Literature review and research gap
  • Novelty of the study
  • Research questions and objectives

Use Garamond, size 11, single spacing.


d. Method

This section should explain:

  • Type of research
  • Research approach
  • Data sources
  • Analytical method

This section is mandatory for research articles but optional for conceptual papers.


e. Results and Discussion

  • Present research findings clearly and concisely
  • Answer the research questions directly
  • Provide critical analysis using relevant theories
  • Highlight the novelty of the study

Tables and figures may be included when necessary and must follow proper formatting.


f. Conclusion

The conclusion must include:

  • Key findings
  • Contribution to knowledge
  • Limitations of the study
  • Suggestions for future research

Avoid repeating the abstract.


g. Acknowledgment (Optional)

Used to acknowledge funding, institutional support, or contributions from non-authors.


h. Author Contributions Statement

Clearly describe each author’s contribution using initials only (e.g., AJ, BS).


i. AI Usage Statement

Authors must declare that AI tools are only used for:

  • Language editing
  • Grammar checking
  • Improving clarity

AI must not be used for generating ideas, analysis, or conclusions.


j. Conflict of Interest

Authors must declare whether there is any conflict of interest.


k. References

  • Minimum 50 references, with 80% from primary sources (reputable journals)
  • References should be from the last 5–10 years
  • Citation style: Chicago Manual of Style 17th Edition (full note)
  • Use reference managers such as Mendeley or Zotero
  • References must be listed alphabetically

3. Formatting Guidelines

  • Font: Garamond
  • Main text size: 11 pt
  • Spacing: single
  • Arabic text: Traditional Arabic, size 16
  • Foreign terms: italic
  • Transliteration: follow Indonesian standard (SKB 3 Menteri)

4. Submission Policy

  • Manuscripts must be submitted through the journal’s online system
  • Authors must ensure the manuscript complies with all guidelines before submission
  • Non-compliant manuscripts may be rejected without review

5. Copyright and License

All published articles are licensed under:
Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-SA 4.0)
