Peer Review Process

All manuscripts submitted to the Journal of Contemporary Islamic Law and Studies (JCILS) undergo a rigorous peer-review process to ensure the quality, originality, and academic integrity of published articles.

1. Initial Editorial Screening

Upon submission, the manuscript is first evaluated by the editorial team to assess:

  • Relevance to the journal’s aims and scope
  • Compliance with author guidelines and formatting requirements
  • Originality and potential academic contribution

Manuscripts that do not meet these criteria may be rejected without external review.

2. Plagiarism Check

All submitted manuscripts are screened using plagiarism detection tools.
Manuscripts with a high similarity index or indications of academic misconduct will be rejected.

3. Double-Blind Peer Review

JCILS applies a double-blind peer review process, where:

  • The identities of authors and reviewers are concealed
  • Each manuscript is reviewed by at least two independent reviewers

Reviewers are selected based on their expertise and academic background relevant to the manuscript topic.

4. Review Criteria

Reviewers evaluate manuscripts based on:

  • Originality and novelty of the research
  • Relevance to contemporary Islamic law studies
  • Theoretical and methodological rigor
  • Clarity of analysis and argumentation
  • Contribution to academic discourse

5. Review Decision

Based on reviewers’ reports, the editorial team will make one of the following decisions:

  • Accept without revision
  • Accept with minor revisions
  • Revise and resubmit (major revisions)
  • Reject

Authors will receive detailed feedback and are required to revise their manuscripts accordingly.

6. Revision Process

Authors must submit revised manuscripts along with a response to reviewers explaining how comments have been addressed.
Failure to revise within the given timeframe may result in withdrawal of the submission.

7. Final Decision

The Editor-in-Chief makes the final decision based on:

  • Reviewer recommendations
  • Quality of revisions
  • Editorial judgment

8. Publication

Accepted manuscripts will proceed to:

  • Copyediting
  • Layout editing
  • Proofreading

Authors will receive a final proof before publication.

9. Ethical Standards

JCILS adheres to ethical publishing standards, including:

  • Confidentiality of submitted manuscripts
  • Objectivity and fairness in review
  • Avoidance of conflicts of interest
