Aims and Scope

The Journal of Contemporary Islamic Law and Studies (JCILS) aims to advance high-quality and impactful scholarship on the development and transformation of Islamic law in contemporary global contexts. The journal seeks to provide a platform for critical, interdisciplinary, and forward-looking research that engages with both classical Islamic legal traditions and modern legal, social, economic, and technological challenges.

JCILS welcomes original research articles that offer theoretical, empirical, or conceptual contributions, particularly those that introduce innovative frameworks, critical perspectives, or practical implications for Islamic legal thought and governance.

The scope of the journal includes, but is not limited to:

  • Islamic legal theory and jurisprudence (fiqh and usul al-fiqh)
  • Maqasid al-Shariah and contemporary legal reasoning
  • Islamic law and global governance
  • Legal pluralism and the interaction between Shariah and state law
  • Islamic law and human rights discourse
  • Islamic finance, social finance, and economic justice

  • Digital transformation, artificial intelligence, and algorithmic governance in Islamic law
  • Blockchain, smart contracts, and decentralized Islamic finance
